To set the scene, we went on a walk around the neighborhood yesterday...enjoying the rare November sun. Many of the houses had Christmas lights up, including one man who was on a roof putting them up as we were walking by.
Student: Teacher Katie, if people have lights on their house that means they celebrate Christmas. If they do no have lights on their house, then they do not celebrate Christmas.
You heard it people, better buy some more lights because we're not all celebrating Christmas!

Class Field Trip to Disneyland
Student: "Teacher Katie, can we go on a field trip to Disneyland???"
Me: "Well, let's think about this for a moment...how would we get there?"
Student: "You can drive us and our mommies and daddies will meet us there."
Me: "Does anyone know how much it costs to get into Disneyland?"
Student: "It's one money (shows me one finger)."
Student: "I have...(counts fingers)...this many monies. I can take the whole class, Teacher Katie!!"
If only life was this easy... :)

Fighting Violence With A High Five
Today's highlight: A child went to hit me and I put my hand up to block it and ended up giving me a high five.

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin', Enrollment Visits!
This week is all about enrollment visits. I'll be meeting my families for the first time, unless they're returners (whom I'm very much excited about!). I won't be in the classroom much, so "moving day part 2" will have to wait a few more days or even a week before I can reveal the new room!
Cheers.
Cheers.

Move-In Day Part 1
The long awaited day has arrived...we got the keys to our classroom! For me there is always this sense of excitement and energy when I get the keys, until I get to the room and realize we have to put all the furniture back in their respective spots. After a few minutes of discussing our options we decide that we'll keep it the same as last year and then move things as see fit. What? That would be way to easy though. True the layout worked well with our space and kids last year but what was our reason for keeping the layout the same? Our team has changed a lot since last Spring, which is why we took the more challenging road and completely rearranged our classroom. Can you say E-X-H-A-U-S-T-I-N-G?? We are very fortunate to have a large room, but with our new layout it looks even bigger. Tomorrow I'm bringing in my plants from home and as a team we will begin to decorate our home for the next 9 months. This is when things get fun...who wouldn't want to pick and choose which toys we get to play with first?! Pictures to follow with the next posting :)

Head Start: Year Two
Well folks, summer is officially over (for us teachers anyway, seasonally speaking I still have over 3 weeks left). Thursday begins year two with Community Action and lots of things have changed. I will have a new supervisor, a new family support teacher and a new morning teacher to collaborate with. I'm hoping they all fit in nicely with us returning staff, but then again it's the beginning of the school year, so if I wasn't being optimistic wouldn't there be a problem? That was the whole point of summer right? To repair, relax, and rejuvenate for the upcoming year. You non-teachers out there might not understand but all my teacher readers know what I'm talking about. That's all I have for now, check back in, in a few days...I might just surprise you with another posting!
